Jon Shipley picked up a check for $3000 in addition to being invited to the 2012 World Championship of Custom Bike Building. John Shipley of Hoosier Daddy Choppers left the Ultimate Builder show in Cleveland, OH, with $3000, a class winner's trophy and a guaranteed World Championship spot after taking first place in the Freestyle class with 'Whiskey Bent', a heavily customized 1977 Ironhead featuring a bar stool seat and 102 year-old brass headlight. Split Image Kustoms won a cash prize of $3000 plus a free place at the 2012 AMD World Championship in Sturgis. The 2011/12 series of Ultimate Builder custom shows hosted at the Progressive International Motorcycle Shows began at the weekend in San Mateo, California. Thunderbike from Germany has a long history of building top flight custom bikes, having placed 2nd at the 2006 World Championship of Custom Bike Building and 5th in the 2008 event. Throughout the 2011 World Championship of Custom Bike Building, there were a small number of bikes that people kept going back to, to have another look. One of those was not in the Freestyle class and nor was it a bike. Abnormal Cycles had entered the Modified Harley class, and had entered with a sidecar outfit, and it was this that was getting all the attention. Spanish builder Malicia Indigena won their second Sturgis prize at Faro in three years. This year's 30th annual Moto Clube Faro Rally on the Algarve in Southern Portugal saw record crowds in attendance. Antoine Bigel of Blue Line Chopper will travel to Sturgis in 2012. The third annual Wild Magazine rally and custom show held in the mountainous Haute Savoie region of France was this year sponsored by W&W Cycles, and again offered two World Championship affiliate 'Sturgis' prizes - one for the best French builder and the other going to the best 'international' guest competitor. Throughout the history of the World Championship of Custom Bike Building there have been many changes, including the location, sponsoring partners and competitive classes. However, one thing that has remained constant over the eight years the event has been taking place is the presence of Mike Tomas - the Big Chief at Kiwi Indian Motorcycle Co. OCEAN EVENTS, the organizers of 2011's Custom Motorcycle Show (known as California Dreamin'), which was held in Bournemouth and was one of two UK shows affiliated to the World Championship of Custom Bike Building program, have announced a new location for the 2012 show. The event will now take place at Beaulieu over the weekend of 16/17 June 2012. Buck's futuristic looking Sportster began life as a '87 XL1200 before he stripped it down to just an engine and transmission. CamTech Customs became the first competitor to win both Freestyle and Modified Harley classes at the same event. This past weekend saw the latest in the Progressive International Motorcycle Show series staged at Long Beach, California, with Mike Tomas of Kiwi Indian fame scooping the FreeStyle class win at the fourth round of the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show program. No stranger to AMD Magazine's Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building, Mike took this affiliate event win with his Kiwi Indian Chief. Camarillo, California based engines, performance component and tools manufacturer JIMS USA is the latest noted aftermarket specialist to sign-on as a sponsoring Official Partner to the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building. An estimated 28,000 show visitors witnessed the latest Progressive International Motorcycle Show held in Seattle, WA, which featured the third round of the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show. Corsicana, Tx. based custom bike builder Christian Dotson scooped top honors in the FreeStyle class at the weekend in the first round of this winter's Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show World Championship affiliate competition, hosted at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show series opener at Dallas, Tx. For the second year, the Mad Builders custom bike show in Jocotepec, Mexico, in May (1st to 3rd) is offering a Mexican customizer the chance to compete at the Official World Championship at Sturgis in August. The annual Custom Chrome Europe Dealer Show once again played host to the prestigious AMD Official European Championship of Custom Bike Building at the Phoenixhalle, at Mainz, near Frankfurt in Germany on March 27th and 28th. This weekend will see the staging of the annual European Championship of Custom Bike Building at Custom Chrome Europe's Dealer Show at Mainz in Germany. Staged at the Phoenixhalle, on Saturday March 27th and Sunday March 28th, the event is expected to see one of the largest European Championships to date, with over 120 bikes pre-registered by the deadline. Harley-Davidson are backing the Modified Harley-Davidson Class at the European Championship, with one of their new 120 inch Twin Cam engines as first prize.
