R-Odynamic by Thunderbike

Thunderbike from Germany has a long history of building top flight custom bikes, having placed 2nd at the 2006 World Championship of Custom Bike Building and 5th in the 2008 event. The latest ground-up custom build to come from the Hamminkeln shop is R-Odynamic, which took 2nd place in the Custom Class at the 2011 European Bike Week show.
Andreas Bergerforth, the owner of Thunderbike, began this build by pulling one of his own design Dragster RS frames from the shop's stock and building it up with a single-sided swingarm on the shop's own airride system and at the front a set of Thunderbike telescopic forks that are also air sprung, allowing the frame's engine rails to be laid on the ground the bike is stationary.

K&N Aircharger

K&N has released a version of its Aircharger high-flow air intake assembly which has been designed to work with both '08-'11 H-D Dyna and Softail models and '01-'07 Twin Cams.
Installation of the Aircharger is claimed by K&N to offer a performance increase of up to 10hp.
The K&N Aircharger provides the power increase by replacing the restrictive stock OE air cleaner with a custom mandrel bent aluminum intake tube fitted with an oversized K&N high-flow air filter. The new intake tube mounts to the throttle body via a billet aluminum mounting flange that has an integrated internal run breather system. The intake can be ordered in a choice of polished finish or black powder coat, and the filter element is washable, reusable, and pre-oiled ready for installation.

An Abnormal Union

Throughout the 2011 World Championship of Custom Bike Building, there were a small number of bikes that people kept going back to, to have another look. One of those was not in the Freestyle class and nor was it a bike.
Abnormal Cycles had entered the Modified Harley class, and had entered with a sidecar outfit, and it was this that was getting all the attention. The attention was well deserved, too, as come the end of the show the outfit rolled away with the top prize.
Hailing from Bernareggio, near Milan, Italy, Abnormal Cycles is the custom shop responsible for Union, as the side car outfit is known. Based upon a relatively stock 1942, 74ci powered model U, the most major change was the addition of an Indian styled leaf spring front end. However, the one used is no straight copy of an original Springfield-made fork, rather this one features double springs to compensate for the added wait of the 'chair' at the side of the bike.

Zero Engineering: From Zero to hero

In the world of custom bike building, there are certain countries which seem to produce bikes that have a definite style that is unique to each location. One such example is the builds coming out of Japan.
The Japanese style of custom bike building first came to prominence with the machines created by Shinya Kimura under the Zero Engineering banner. After Kimura left Japan for the US, the company expanded and opened a business in the US too, under the name of Zero Engineering/Plot USA Inc. and it was this company that had two bikes entered in the 2011 World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

Punta Bagna Bike Valfrejus

Antoine Bigel of Blue Line Chopper will travel to Sturgis in 2012

The third annual Wild Magazine rally and custom show held in the mountainous Haute Savoie region of France was this year sponsored by W&W Cycles, and again offered two World Championship affiliate 'Sturgis' prizes - one for the best French builder and the other going to the best 'international' guest competitor.
The French win went to Antoine Bigel of Blue Line Chopper who will travel to Sturgis in 2012.
The 'International' win was taken by Carlo Colombo of Asso Special Bike in Italy for his 199R, his lightweight street bike project weighing only 199kg, featuring his own 16kg aluminium frame, hand made titanium exhaust, carbon fibre gas tank and fenders and 110in RevTech engine. Upon winning his prize, Carlo took the bike straight to Frankfurt for transportation to Sturgis, where he finished in 19th place in the Freestyle class.

World Championship 2011 Web Favorite Award Winners

After two months of intense courting of public favour via Facebook, we are now pleased to announce the winners of this year's "Public Pick of Excellence" awards.
This award was intended as an alternative to the standard "Public Choice" award given at many shows, and encouraged World Championship competitors to use their internet social networking skills to attact as many Facebook "Likes" as possible on their Registry page on AMDchampionship.com.
Throughout the competition, three competitors kept a distance between themselves and the rest, and all three will receive certificates recognising their achievement.

Kiwi Indian: Chief Mike Tomas

Throughout the history of the World Championship of Custom Bike Building there have been many changes, including the location, sponsoring partners and competitive classes. However, one thing that has remained constant over the eight years the event has been taking place is the presence of Mike Tomas - the Big Chief at Kiwi Indian Motorcycle Co.
Over the years, Mike has always entered at least one bike in the Championship, winning the Production Manufacturer class in 2006, and 2011 was no exception as it saw him roll a 1950's Kiwi Chieftain into the show venue.
The bike, co-owned by Billy Joel, may be called a 1950's model but the build uses entirely new parts, including the Aerodraulic front end, which was a new design for Indian in 1950. Other contemporary, for the time, features on the bike include the plunger rear suspension on the Kiwi-made Springer frame, which is based upon a design first used by Indian in 1940.
