AMD World Championship Editor's Choice (Peter Thoeming, Australia)

Australian Motorcyclist Magazine

"Well, it was a difficult job but I finally chose 'Titanium V' by Paul Milbourn as my choice - and it is clear that I was not alone in my admiration for Paul's work as he went on to scoop the win in the Street Performance Class.

Paul went entirely his own way with this design. He chose a fine target on which to focus his ideas - a Moto Guzzi engine - and executed his mission of making the machine as light as possible.

The Guzzi is an often over looked and underrated platform for customization but the symmetry of its unique layout delivers possibilities that are very different to other engines.

AMD World Championship Editor's Choice (Mala Malk, Finland)

Kopteri Magazine

"I felt very honored to be asked again to pick my favourite of the bikes at the 13th AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building. It is really a hard choice between about 100 very fine custom built motorcycles.
This time there were two personal favourites of mine. As I was wondering whether I have to flip a coin, Robin Bradley of AMD helped me out telling that it'll be all right to pick two bikes. I can tell you, I was relieved.

The first one of my selection of two is a Knucklehead named SourKraut. It is owned by Jesse Dickinson and built by Jordan Dickinson of Union Speed and Style at Monticello, MN, USA.
The heart of this beautiful bike is a Harley-Davidson 1947 EL Knucklehead motor. The rigid frame is a Union Speed and Style work and the front end is a narrowed Harley-Davidson VL fork. The laced wheels are a classical combo of 19" front and 16" rear, both with old school tires.

AMD World Championship Editor's Choice (Andy Hornsby, UK)

American-V and Spirit of 1901 Magazines

"I'll be the first to admit that I approach custom bikes from the traditional end of the spectrum, and as a rider rather than a builder my editor's choice will always be an aesthetically beautiful bike that I would want in my garage, fuelled-up and ready to roll.

After much soul-searching, I managed to reduce this most diverse collection of motorcycles that I've ever seen assembled into one place down to five that "speak to me", and subsequently down to two once I had accounted for the riding position: Union Speed and Style's 1940's concept Knuck and Abnormal Cycle's 101 Scout-framed UH.

OptiMate SOLAR, getting the Drag Specialties motorcycles 'ready to ride' at Sturgis!

TecMate's advanced OptiMate brand Solar battery charging tools have been gaining traction in the market place rapidly since their introduction. At this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the United States the company was set up with Drag Specialties / Parts Unlimited - the company's exclusive North American distributor.

Though there primarily to help the sales team promote the OptiMate range, with some sales of the Solar chargers being made - especially to people who had transported their bikes in closed trailers - one classic opportunity to showcase their Solar products came with the show bikes that TecMate's distributor uses at events within the USA.

SBS goes 100% NRS Safe

Danish specialist SBS Friction has announced that it has "secured a 100% safe brake pad programme" by embracing mechanical bonding for their ceramic and sintered brake pads.

Last year SBS succeeded in launching a sinter material for street brake pads using NUCAP Retention System (NRS) technology for their SP programme. Now a new range of world leading road racing brake pads with NRS technology has been tested for a year and will be launched with a new Dynamic Racing Concept at EICMA. SBS says it has committed to going towards being "100% NRS Safe" throughout its brake product line.

The NRS technology is said to be the most advanced mechanical pad to backing plate attachment technology in the industry with a zero-failure rate in over a billion units worldwide.

AMD World Championship Sets Records, Russian Builder Scoops the Win for First Time

The 13th AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building, staged at INTERMOT Customized, Cologne, October 3-7, is widely being hailed as a success, with the standards and numbers of bikes entered reaching standards and numbers not seen since the event moved to Europe, or before.

At 85 individual builders, the number of competitors is a new record, as anticipated, but so too is the number of countries - they came from 30 different countries, including some (Indonesia, Malaysia and India) for the first time as the global passion for custom motorcycles continues to spread around the world.

At 98 the number of bikes was also a record since the two bikes per competitor maximum was introduced 12 years ago, and although estimates are always tricky, at around 150,000 visitors, the 'AMD' and INTERMOT Customized again confirmed its status as the largest international custom show and custom motorcycle industry expo ever seen.

Avon Agrees Multi Year AMD World Champion and Freestyle Class Sponsorship

Leading custom tire manufacturer AVON has signed a multi year agreement to be Freestyle Class sponsor at the 2018 and 2020 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building - the winner will be the 'Avon World Champion Custom Bike Builder'.

One of the oldest motorcycle product manufacturers of any kind in the world, Avon traces its origins back to 1885. The company entered the motorcycle and sidecar tire market in 1911.

Always an avid supporter of motorsport, Avon's dominance in motorcycle racing was historically so great that in its 1957 to 1963 'Glory Years' every solo world champion, including legendary Britons John Surtees and Mike Hailwood, rode to victory on Avon motorcycle tires (Surtees remains the only man to have won World Championships on two and four wheels).

In the 1970s Avon's reputation as the custom motorcycle tire of choice was cemented through its association with industry legend Arlen Ness - an early adopter of Avons for his custom builds, and still an Avon enthusiast. Avon Venoms quickly became established as the preferred option for custom bike builders worldwide.

Japan scoops AMD World Championship for third time

82 bikes, 67 competitors, 23 countries

9th October, 2016, Japanese customizer Suicide Customs scored a convincing first place in the 12th AMD World Championship at 'INTERMOT Customized' at Cologne, Germany, October 10th to take the coveted title of AMD World Champion of Custom Bike Building.

Voted for by the competitors themselves, this is the third time that a customiser from Japan has taken the Championship ring home, and in a close field of Freestyle class entrants, Suicide Customs was the clear choice of his fellow competitors as their Champion for the next two years.

Suicide Customs' 1000cc V-twin "Rumble Racer" has quite a back story. Crated for dry shipping to Europe several weeks before the show, Koh Niwa had tense days and late evenings at the World Championship before managing to get the bike fired up and completing the necessary run test (video available) to be able to qualify for prizing - his determination in the face of tough odds won the admiration of the "Class of 2016".

AIMExpo announces additional custom market initiative

THE third annual AIMExpo (American International Motorcycle Expo) at Orlando, Florida, (October 15 - 18) is headed for further growth this year and now includes added v-twin aftermarket features.

The event continues to differentiate itself from prior 'mainstream' trade show formulas in the United States and delivers on former MIC Chairman Larry Little's vision of bringing a European style Milan or Cologne Show motorcycle industry experience to the North American motorcycle market.

Bob Kay, v-twin industry event director, says that AIMExpo has "created a new paradigm for motorcycling. A way to come together at one place, at one time, at the right time adjacent to an existing major rally - Biketoberfest - in a grand celebration of the riding lifestyle and business.

The 41st annual Custom Bike Show held in Sweden at Norrtällje featured over 200 bikes, entered in 8 classes.
AMD and INTERMOT confirm World Championship of Custom Bike Building plans for 2016

We are pleased to announce that the 2016 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building will be staged at the internationally acclaimed INTERMOT expo at Cologne, Germany, in October 2016.

Having made a successful debut in Europe at Big Bike Europe in 2013, the opportunity to move the Championship to INTERMOT in 2014 proved a great success - with an estimated crowd of over 100,000 high-mileage 'mainstream' riders seeing custom bike builds of AMD World Championship calibre for the first time.

The reaction of the builder and competitor community to having such an opportunity was universally positive. As a showcase for custom motorcycle design and engineering, the AMD World Championship "fits well" in the environment of an expo like INTERMOT, according to AMD owner Robin Bradley. "The custom industry needs new customers. Simple! The idea behind the program when it started in 2004 was that it would act as a lens through which those who have never seen custom motorcycles as being their preferred riding experience option, can see just how much the custom market has changed.
